MMG’s founder and principal has had his hands in boating, one way or another, for the vast majority of his life. Starting at age 3 in Venezuela, where he was born and lived until age 9, the spark and passion for boating was ignited. Axel had regular visits to local boat builders that luckily his father was friends with the management of, as a family, they would embark in journeys exploring the whole of Venezuela’s north coast, and that’s where the story begins.
Fast forward a couple of years, the family relocated to Miami, FL. Axel began boating with his group of friends from school on what ever floated at the time. He later started to make trips over to the Bahamas on various boats with various families and realized how much joy and unity the activity brought to those families.
Fast forward another few years, while attending the first year of university at FIU, Axel begins working as a yacht broker as soon as he is of age to get his license. The spark was ignited here with a local dealer at the time for numerous production boats, ranging from 24 to 96’. This was a massive learning experience in both new boat sales and brokerage that lasted 4 years. He then wanted to experience other brands so he worked with another new boat dealer / brokerage for nearly 2 years before realizing he wanted to gain more experience in the manufacturing aspect of these vessels.
That’s when Axel joined a local Miami boat builder of high end center consoles, to learn how it’s made, how it’s managed, what it’s like to be on the factory side and of course, having a blast with R&D and marketing.
Come 2017, Axel decided he had the knowledge and passion to open his own brokerage house, that’s when Miami Maritime Group came into the market. The focus at MMG was never to really be a new boat dealer, even though that side may be more profitable, the focus was to be able to accommodate each and every client into the boat that best suits them and their plans. “If I’m married to a brand, it becomes a conflict to sell a competitor’s boat, even if it’s the better option for a particular case”.
Miami Maritime Group, now with 3 divisions (MMG Yachts MMG charters and MMG Outboard Division), is stronger than ever and looking forward to a bright future.
